Convert and resize images without uploading them

Change format, scale photos, or run a whole ZIP through the same pass. ImgLab works in your browser — your files stay on this device.

PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF Single files or ZIP batches Nothing is uploaded

File

One image or a ZIP with folders of photos. Drop it here or pick a file from your device.

Drop a file or click to browse PNG · JPG · WebP · AVIF · BMP · ZIP

Format

Choose the output format. PNG stays sharp and can be transparent. JPG suits everyday photos. WebP balances quality and weight. AVIF is usually the smallest.

Settings

Enable only what you need. By default, files convert to the selected format, keep their size, and non-image extras are dropped from archives.

Text from image

Drop a screenshot, receipt, or note. ImgLab reads the writing locally — same as the converter, nothing is sent away.

Script is detected automatically. If the result looks off, try a sharper crop.

What ImgLab does

A free local toolkit: convert formats, resize, process ZIP batches, tidy names, and pull text from photos. No install, no account.

Format conversion

Export to PNG, JPG, WebP, or AVIF. A single photo downloads immediately; a ZIP comes back as a new archive with _converted in the name.

Resize

Keep the original size, set a width, scale by percent, or enter exact pixels. Size never changes unless you turn Resize on.

ZIP batches

Drop an archive with nested folders and get a processed ZIP back. Useful when photos are spread across directories.

Clean names

Long noisy filenames become short titles — without duplicate words or leftover dimensions.

Archive cleanup

Flatten folders, drop non-image files, or keep a count that divides by four for grids and galleries.

Private by design

Drop a file on the converter and it is processed here. Images never leave this device.

What each setting does

A plain-language map of every checkbox, with when to use it.

Format

Convert format

Writes images in the format chosen under Output format.

  • On — every file becomes PNG, JPG, WebP, or AVIF.
  • Off — format stays. Use this when you only need resize or rename.
  • JPG, WebP, and AVIF keep high quality while cutting file weight.

Example: 200 JPGs in a ZIP → one click → 200 lighter WebP files.

Size

Resize

Shows the size controls. With this off, dimensions never change.

  • Keep original — same pixels as the source.
  • Set width — e.g. 1920; height follows, proportions stay.
  • Percent — 100 unchanged, 50 half size, 200 double.
  • Width and height — exact numbers; the image may stretch.

Example: huge screenshots → width 1280 → easier to share.

Names

Clean file names

Tidies names before saving:

  1. Dashes and underscores become spaces.
  2. Repeated words are removed.
  3. Each word is capitalized.
  4. Trailing numbers and sizes are stripped.

After: Summer Beach.png

Archive

Flatten folders

ZIPs often nest folders inside folders. Turn this on and every image lands in one place.

Leave it off to keep the original tree — only format and names change if you enabled those.

Filter

Skip non-images

Only images are copied into the new ZIP. Text and other files are skipped.

Hidden macOS system folders are ignored automatically.

Archive

Count divisible by 4

For layouts that need groups of four. 47 files become 44 — extras are dropped at random.

Note: which files disappear is random. Do not use this if you need every image.

Formats

Which format to pick

PNG

Sharp, can be transparent. Heavier — best for logos and graphics.

JPG

Everyday photos. Smaller files, no transparency.

WebP

Modern default for the web: strong quality at a small size.

AVIF

Usually the lightest at similar quality. Use when size matters most.

How to use ImgLab

Add a file → pick settings → Convert → download. One image gives a download button; a ZIP saves as name_converted.zip.

Add a file

A single image or a ZIP with any number of photos and folders. Drag it onto the drop zone or click to browse.

Choose format and options

Pick the output format. Turn on resize, rename, or archive cleanup if you need them. Details live in Settings.

Hit Convert

Wait for the pass to finish — archives show a progress bar. If one image fails, the rest still go through.

FAQ

Short answers to the questions people ask first.

What does Convert format do?

Writes each image as PNG, JPG, WebP, or AVIF. If it is off, the format stays and the other settings still apply.

How does name cleanup work?

It removes extra symbols and repeats, capitalizes words, and trims trailing numbers. Example: cat_cat-photo_800x600.jpg → Cat Photo.jpg.

Why “count divisible by 4”?

Keeps a total that divides by four and drops extras at random. Useful for 2×2 grids. Skip it if every file matters.

Can I resize without changing format?

Yes. Turn Convert format off, turn Resize on, then pick percent, width, or exact size.

What if one image in a ZIP fails?

The rest still process. You will see how many succeeded and which files failed — often a damaged or unusual file.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs on your device. Images are never sent to ImgLab servers.

What can ImgLab do?

Convert formats, resize, batch-process ZIPs, clean names and folders, and read text from photos.

How do I process a photo archive?

Drop the ZIP, pick a format, enable the options you need, and click Convert. A new archive downloads when it is done.

Does size change on its own?

No. Dimensions stay until you enable Resize.

Which browser should I use?

Any current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.

Are there limits?

Very large ZIPs take longer — it depends on this device, not a server queue.

Do I need an account?

No. ImgLab is free and works without sign-up.
